This past week at Western was a good week in terms of progress! Due to the weather turning and icing present we were unable to fly for most of the week, and that means lots of grounds! The ground work in my opinion is just as important as the flight knowledge since the information you must know in Aviation can be a lot, and sometimes can be daunting. Me and my instructor feel very confident in my knowledge at this point and now we can proceed with the rest of the lessons in the Transition Course. The transition course consists of 10 lessons and usually a few remedial lessons to really make sure you are ready to take your lesson 10 check. This training consists of pattern work, a cross country, and lots of maneuver practice. My goal is to be done with this course soon since we are going to have a few weeks off for Christmas and New Year Break, as well as a week off for Thanksgiving. As Michiganders know, the weather can get pretty bad in the winter and this really affects the amount of time that we can fly and really decreases the amount of good flying days you have through the long winters. The Cirrus SR20 have two anti-icing measures, and those are pitot heat and windshield defrosting, however there are no de-icing measures such as boots on the wings to remove ice. This upcoming week we should be able to fly a few times and we are going to start preparing for me to take my lesson 10 check.
